Last year I decided to give my linoprinting a stronger focus and more dedication. I carved new designs, tested new oil based inks and different kind of handmade papers, transfer methods and 2 different small hand presses. Even though I have been doing linocuts for years, there was a lot I did not know. I also spent lots of time on my instagram account following many print artist to gather more workflow tips.

Hi you! Welcome to 2015, I hope you are well. I have not done anything new this January but here is a set of rooster linoprints I did a few weeks back. A black and a red version. Size: A5 (148mm x 210mm). I (currently) sell them separately on my Etsy although I think they look best together.  ;) framed prints

Hey everyone. I made a new set of linocuts. Fuck yeah! 3 Friendly birds (actually one is rather grumpy). It's Bob, Bill and Berta but you can give them other names. It´s the first time I went from a digital iPad sketch to paper:

Here are the 6 linoprints I´ve recently exhibited. Focus on tech and nature. 1-2 colored-linocut. A4 (210×297mm). Design carved on linoleum block and hanprinted with waterbased lino-print ink on white paper. These prints are currently available on Etsy.  Go baby, get some! On other exciting news I haven´t smoked in 11 days. Whoop Whoop.

I don´t think anyone saw me much in the last 2 weeks for I was printing and cutting the hell out of lino-blocks. Kamil would draw the nights away and Shiroh finishing up his paintings. In between we would meet Andrew at the gallery to discuss concepts, prices for the artwork and such. The three of us have very different styles and deal with different realities. You can see the results in real-life (OMG!) until the 19th of October at Gallery52 (Weichselstrasse 52. Wed to Sat 3 -7 pm). I´d be thrilled if you find time to check it out.

I worked three hot summer evenings on this linocut, with my feet dangling in a bucket of cold water. I listened to more A Song of Ice and Fire audio books, ate corn out of a can because I can and enjoyed every little breeze that found it´s way thru the window. And did I hear a wolve howling? I would have uploaded the stuff earlier if my week hadn't been ruined by not so amazeballs news. Change is coming.

My mom loved them. Elephants. She had one tattooed on her lower back. I was with her when she got it and remember her long blonde hair. That´s pretty much all I saw because her head was bend over the whole session, probably concentrating or biting her lips. That was 13 years ago and I thought of this when scribbling the elephant a few days ago. Maybe it would have looked better if I had corrected tipsy lines, improved the typo and exchanged the second line with something more creative but at last I just used the draft.

I like the smell of linol. It´s nice. But I always have to vaccum my room afterwards and shake my clothes clean. This stuff ends up everywhere. The cutting  starts to become a pain in the neck. It´s almost impossible for me to keep a correct (body) posture during this process. Have to do more breaks and relax my muscles.

This one took pretty long to cut. Not only because 2 colors mean I have to cut 2 different lino sheets but also because I had to get rid of so much background. The sheet on the left for the red color.

This is my first linocut.  I did a couple of more since but will post those later. I am still in super practicing mode but what I like about this whole thing so far:

  • It´s not too hard to do
  • A printmaking techique I can easily do at home
  • Handwork
  • I have original prints and everyone is a little different from the one before.
  • Easy clean up with waterbased colors
  • I enjoy the cutting (even if it takes hours).
  • Experimental value
  • To work with one or just a minimum of colors
