Framed Polaroid
One time a boy came up to me and wanted to see the picture I had just taken of a horse. I told him that this is not a digital camera and that we would have to wait some days in super suspense for the film to be developed. He gave me a disappointed shrug and a “that sucks!”.
I have taken a deeper interest in analog photography for a while now. It all began when I wanted to give cleaning-up-my computer a serious try. From over a 1000 photographs that I had taken over the years I have never printed out a single picture (shocking). So I thought one rainy day “I got a minute” and surfed thru gigabytes of digital photos, spending hours deleting, re-naming and grouping. It was damn overwhelming. Eventually I made a collection of my favourites which I promised myself to make pretty prints of. Of course I never found the time and when my hard drive died the matter was out of the world anyway ( I used to be lazy with backups).
Because of the huge amount of data which was paralyzing me and the loss of many photos I decided to go back to film for a change and get another forgotten value. First I took the Nikon F60 from my mom for a walk. Then I bought a couple old cameras from eBay. I felt like a kid, excited about the new old toys.
But like that boy I am also impatient sometimes and in the end Polaroids seemed to be the perfect match. Instant love.
Church in Berlin. Taken with a Polaroid Land Camera Colorpack II. Pack film (Fujifilm FP-3000B).
I keep collecting the safety covers and the white tabs, stuff you are suppose to throw away after a shot. I dig the little instrucions manuals on them. And I also love to keep the polaroid negatives (wich you can also scan and invert). Sometimes they seem even more interesting than the actual photo. So I wanted to keep it all connected and thought it would be sweet to have it all set up in a frame. Maybe I will make another framed polaroid set but with a more exciting photo.
Note: I spent a good amount researching on what types of polaroid cameras (the old ones) I should get because it´s just not that simple. But if you would like to have an good overview you should definitely check out “The Land List – Project in Cataloging Polaroid Cameras”. But beware, the layout will burn your eyes.
